The latest review of Star Citizen covers how opening the game’s public beta universe for Alpha 3.17.2 led to some decisions about expanding capacity. By the way, since Star Citizen UEC & aUEC is the important currency of this game, you can equip some cheap in-game currency at the web called Z2U.
This time PTU is open to all supporters, and the team at Cloud Imperium Games has now noted that they are actively testing an increase in the server cap from 75 to 120 players per server during this more widely accessible beta phase. The team previously said they had no plans to increase the player cap on their online servers, but testing went so well that they are now exploring the idea of a 3.17.2 online release.
“Those of you who joined PTU will also see that we tested several new player caps of 75 to 120 players per server. Now, I know we said earlier that we have no plans to increase the player cap on our online servers… But the results of the described tests were so promising that things changed. For this reason, we are now exploring the possibility of adding a ceiling to Alpha 3.17.2 live release. We are still testing/reviewing and will share more information soon, including what caps we ultimately adopt.”
Of course, since development is still in alpha, these changes, once announced, will change as more data becomes available.
It also mentioned the “Battle of the Bricks” charity event on Friday. The event, which can now be viewed on the Star Citizen YouTube channel, will see community teams from Star Citizen and EVE Online compete to build boats and overcome a series of bizarre challenges in order to win and raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network. While the charity is now over, the donation page will remain open until the end of the year.
